The long story,
short (or so I tried)
There was a time not all too long ago, where I felt lost, living In the unknown which lead me to the biggest move of my life- moving to a remote Island in the Caribbean becoming my home for 2+ years, (St. John, USVI.) You never realize it at the time, but it was the best decision I ever made.
Why am I sharing this?
When the time came for me to move forward (I know, why would I ever want to leave a tropical island of paradise? Well maybe that's for another time :)) I felt that this little Island gave me clarity and insight into what is now my current life, but it took taking that risk and embarking on that journey to get to that point of clarity. The road wasn’t smooth and I am so grateful it wasn’t.
Next up for me was a move to the big City, that's right- NYC. Just this young woman from Upstate NY, who moved to an island whose population was <3,000 people off peak season, to big Ol’ NYC whose population is >8.5 million people. Whoa. Let’s talk about extreme opposite eh?
What I learned throughout all of this?
The importance of balance. Why getaways are so valuable and vital to our physical and mental health.
During my first 6 months in NYC I went from excited to overwhelmed to what the f*^k am I doing here, and this is why…
I needed balance. I had to re-learn what was once normal to what is now the new norm. And so I went on a local Yoga retreat and that’s when I realized I must create balance in my life. The Retreat was an eye opener for me and even more so lead to my ah-ha moment. Then I thought well, if I feel the need for a Retreat; because lets face it NYC is ALOT :), I can only imagine how many others feel similar. Breaks are needed. Indulging in self care isn’t SELFISH its crucial to living a healthy and happy life.
And so here I am. Life happens, but when we can have some tools to pull out in times of need, or have a community of like minded individuals that become new friends who may be going through similar situations in their life or when you learn that taking care of yourself is actually how it SHOULD be..well it makes life a little bit easier.
That's it, the life changing journey I took, in a nutshell. If you're still reading, I thank you much.
I won’t continue with my mushy life story, I’ll one day get a blog up and running properly for that. But until then, I hope that this may inspire you, even just a little. To do the things your body and mind may be asking for but that our world tries to push us away from. I hope that this let’s you also know that you are not ALONE. We are all feeling so many of the same things, I promise. And that there is a place for you out there and I am here if you feel you’re ready. To give yourself a Retreat and trust the process because if your body and your mind are even thinking about something like a Yoga Retreat then there is a reason for it. Let it be the clarity that you may be searching for. Trust the process because who knows, on the other side of that unsure mindset is a world full of possibility and clarity with tools and ideas on how to get wherever it is you are trying to go. <3
